Diane is not a stranger, but in all honesty, she really is. we crossed paths, as 2 people who are in the same supermarket at the same time, but shop in different aisles so they never see each other cross paths. she came into hay house as i was leaving.

as i write this, i think about something else as well. can you truly say you have crossed paths with someone if you were entirely different then than you are now. i don’t know Diane well enough to know if she is different, but i am a completely different man than i was when i was at hay house.

when asked her what she wanted to say to the world, she told me a quote of George Harrison who would say ” All things must pass” .. we have been through wars, other pandemics and bad presidents. We will get through this as well. Just be kind to each other and remember we are all in this together.

something different happened from the moment we entered the room. the energy felt really charged and alive. we had never spoken to each other or seen each there but we were both affiliated with a group called Mindvalley and so there was already an unspoken closeness from that affiliation. normally i ask a series of questions, but after the first question i asked, the conversation took a turn of its own.

it was like 2 old friends sitting together meeting again for the first time. there was something real that melted through any walls that might’ve existed. suddenly we were together again for the first time in a virtual room. i don’t know if andrea felt these same things, and it almost doesn’t matter. for me, this conversation reaffirmed, we are not strangers, but friends that have been separated across the span of time and when we reconnect, we ignite the power of connection again.

Barbara had liked 1 or 2 of the conversations i had, had and so i reached out to her to ask if she would like to have a conversation with me too. she took a chance and agreed. she was not a big social media person, but for whatever reason she decided to give this a try and within minutes of our conversation, 2 strangers were suddenly for no reason at all talking to each other as friends. i could explain from my perspective what happened, but i would rather you watch and see for yourself what happened and then let me know what you feel.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Rabbi Dovid M. Cohen

one of the things i learned while studying to be a rabbi was this simple but powerful statement of truth. the Talmud teaches that there are 3 ways to know a person. the way they are when they are angry, the way the are when they are drink and the way they spend money. if this is the case, Reb Dovid is a very good man. he had every reason to be angry with me. it was one of those days where everything computer related didn’t work, Reb Dovid had given me his time and energy to record a fabulous conversation, only for me to find that the recording turned itself off and i was left with nothing to share with you.

he could have easily gotten mad, but he didn’t’t even spend a moment of his time there, but rather rebooked to have another conversation, saying only, “i don’t know we will be able to capture the spontaneity and feeling of the lost first call.” i answered “of course we will.” and i believe we did that and better.

there is a lot i could say about this conversation. i could tell you that it transported me back to a time in my life when i had conversation like this everyday for five years and how much i enjoyed being challenged mentally and spiritually, but that would be my experience and i would prefer you to have you very own experience of this powerful conversation.

because we already had the conversation i have with other strangers, i decided not to go back there, but rather to forge a new direction in this conversation. i hope you like it.

from the moment, someone who was a stranger in this room asked me if she could share the opportunity to have a conversation in this room with a friend of her, i immediately looked forward to this call. i knew nothing about this person except that she was being sent by a stranger who was becoming a friend, and the empath in me has a really good feeling about what might happen in the conversation. but my initial feeling was that this might not be the time to have this conversation. and yet i felt such a sweet and kind energy from this person called Linda that i said lets just do it.

but once again, my old friend, a saying i loved from the jewish people “Man plans and God Laughs.” showed himself to me again. everything about this conversation was hard. it was hard to find a time to connect, as 2 appointments were set up and then had to be rescheduled. sometime when things are too hard, to me it just means this is not the time for it to happen and so i wrote linda saying as much. i was taken by her response, it was kind and understanding and she expressed that she felt drawn to have this conversation and promised to schedule a time that she would be able to be there for..

it was a great sign that when i entered the room 15 minutes early to get things set up, i saw linda enter a moment later. and yet something was wrong. her sound wasn’t working and then when it did, the sound was not clear. much of our conversation is jumbled and still i wanted to publish it because of what the whole of this process illustrated to me about me.

linda was the one it was happening to, but a friend of mine once told me, see everything in life, the things that happen and the people you meet as simply:

me talking to me about me.

so this had nothing to do with linda and if in this she get something too fabulous. but here is what i saw . . . . so many times i make something so easy so much harder than it needed to be.

how about you, do you sometimes do that too. try your best to listen to this conversation, fight the temptation to turn it off and let the process of this conversation lift from you all that complicates that which is simple. thank you linda for being the one who helps us all see this.

in full transparency, J. Winslow is not a complete stranger. i met her over the phone somewhere around 3 years ago but as lives continue to grow, our interactions diid not grow. it wasn’t because we didn’t like each other or feel comfortable in each others presence, because we did; it was simply because we just didn’t. maybe it is as j. says in this conversation, that everything comes down to the choices we make and i guess neither one of us choose to pick up the phone and call the other. sound familiar to anyone?

j. in the few conversations we have shared together has always been incredibly kind to me, generous with her valuable time, insightful and in an almost awkward way, she has always had the ability to show me something from another perspective. when we got on this call, it was as if we had just spoken last week. she is that kind of person.

she is loving, familiar and swims in water deeper than many swim in. she loves the involvement with the communities she is a part of and the involvement she has in the lives of the people that hire her to work her magic on them and their companies.

there are people that enter my life and from the moment i meet them i feel like i know them; i feel instantly close to them and the more i speak with them, the more i want to speak with them. Aseem Giri is one of those people for me. we were introduced by Didi Wong. She was a guest on my The Mosaic Podcast. on the surface, we appeared very different. he was a successful financial person, becoming a partner in a well known venture capital company and then leaving to start and grow his own venture capital investment company; i knew nothing abut money. he is an indian born in the UK; i am a jew born in America. He is brilliant and graduated from University of Pennsylvania; i dropped out of college.

little on the outside would bind us together but as Aseem says when i ask him what he would like to say to the world, he writes “”Discrimination begins with anonymity. Don’t see a fellow human for their race, religion, creed or orientation. See them as the mother/father, daughter/son, sister/brother that they are. Those are the only labels with which we can all identify.”

this is a warm and gentle man who i have completely enjoyed getting to know. i know you will feel the same. i can tell you more about him, but why not listen for yourself and feel what you feel.

i love meeting interesting people, who doesn’t, right? interesting people give life a different dimension and what i am finding is that what makes people interesting is that they have the courage to live outside of what we call the norm. they do different, the live different, they are different. but, is it their difference that makes them interesting? maybe.

Gail Saunders is one of those interesting people. 18 seconds before our conversation i didn’t even know gail saunders existed, but 18 seconds after our conversation, i felt my life was richer as a result of knowing her a little. i hope you will listen to our conversation, get to know gail and see why a woman in her mid-30’s along with her husband, steps away from a promising life at the top of their game to take a year off. that year becomes the rest of their life. but rather than me telly her story, listen to our conversation and hear some of it for yourself.  our conversation spans continents, with me in Encinitas, CA and gail in one of the greek island called Paros Island.

it is always nice to hear comments like these from people you have just met. “I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation yesterday.. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
