50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Susie Smith

in all transparency, Susie Smith is not a stranger even though i have never met her. she is a friend from facebook who was always very kind and supportive to me. as you may or may not know, i was planning on a trip around america and then the world; to sit with people no one sits with and listen to people no one listens to. when i shared that i was doing that on and asked if people would be willing to help me by housing me, feeding me, bringing together a group of people for a listening session, Susie volunteered to let me use her spare bedroom for a night or two at her place in florida. how kind that a stranger would open up her home to someone she had never met to help him on his journey.

then mr. covid came and travel for the time being was on hold. i wasn’t going anywhere, so i had to rethink the strategy. when i came up with 50 conversations with 50 strangers, susie said to me, i have been waiting to have this conversation with you, so let’s do it.

we had a great conversation around NY and Florida, divorce and widow(ers) groups, team dynamics, being there for her daughter and grand-daughter, a dream she hopes to create and a whole lot more. listen in to hear a conversation of 2 people who came in as strangers and left as friends.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Jean Bonaduci

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Jean Bonaduci

Jean was a little nervous about having this conversation, she said i normally don’t do stuff like this, so when i asked her, why did she sign up, she told me she has been following on and off for sometime on facebook, and she has gone through a transition in life, leaving her job with the postal service and said she was just looking to meet new people, so she said why not? reasoning with herself that if she didn’t like it, she could always push the end button and be done with it. so i guess i should be happy, i made it to the end of the call, no end button pushed.

we spoke about getting older and living younger, we spoke about the judgement from others, of not being able to say what you want to say, because what will you think of me if i tell you i have been married 3 times, and of dancing and having fun, doing something for charity and living for a bigger reason. to hear this and a lot more, join us in this conversation.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Barbera Schoute

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Barbera Schoute

The hardest thing about this conversation was that i was not able o t pro on correctly Barbera’s last name. After several completely muffed attempts, iand the acceptance that i just couldn’t say it correctly, we moved on to our conversation, which was so in sync.

Barbera was someone i had never met before but when she shared the characteristics of the highly sensitive person, it was as if she stole my playbook and told me who i am. needless to say, our conversation from then on went incredibly well and i loved meeting her and feeling the connection of how deeply we felt connected. have a listen and hear for yourself . . . .

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with AC Fischer

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with AC Fischer

i was having one of those mornings, where nothing was going right. i don’t have them very often, but in fact everything was going wrong and i had a full day of interviews and a couple of deadlines i needed to meet. and you don’t know this about me but i hate being late. but there was no way i was going to make my start time with AC and so i emailed him and said i was so sorry, but i was running 10 minutes late. his response comforted me.

imagine my surprise when i got on the zoom call, thanked AC for his comforting presence only to find him telling me how anxious he was that morning and how much stress he was experiencing. we never know what a person is going through and so it is so important to hold the space for them to be comfortable with themselves with us. please listen to how this call transpired and what made it so that we entered the call in one space and left the call in completely another. i love watching how strangers become friends.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Alex Beekley

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Alex Beekley

One of the most beautiful surprises in settng up conversations with people you don’e know, have never met before and know nothing about is that moment when they appear on zoom and you see them face to face. Alex Beekley was one of those surprises. first of all she was a she, not a he. somehow in hearing the name alex i just imagined i would be speaking with a guy; and secondly because of her youthful appearance, had no idea how old she was which was another pleasant surprise.

Confirming she was 18 years old, we started the conversation. for those of you who fear where the world is going, gain comfort that there are people like alex here to usher the world into the next generation. hear how she has advantaged her youth even in the midst of her own uncertainty; feel the drive that guides her and the curiosity that lives inside her. listen as she learns the things she doesn’t know and has started a business already and is working with people. this conversation was a treat.

i hope you will enjoy listening to it as much as i enjoyed participating in it. once again, a fabulous opportunity to get to know someone i might never meet and to walk away enriched by the conversation. look for me soon to be guest her podcast. i look forward to more conversations with alex for sure.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Chris Doelle

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Chris Doelle

what i love about these conversations is that i never know who is going to show up, especially when the person who signs up has the name Chris. it could be a man or it could be a woman and i do no research on the people that sign up purposefully because i want to meet them as completely strangers. imagine my delight at meeting Chris Doelle, whois a marketer, author, speaker, broadcaster Texas high school football historian and conservative.

Chris is someone who on the surface i share very little in common with. he lives in Texas; i live in California. he is a conservative; i am liberal. he owns and cares a gun; i do not. there were so many places where we could have easily disagreed, fought with each other and not gotten along and . . . well rather than tell you what happened, why not just listen and see for yourself.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Mary Josephine

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Mary Josephine

I met Mary when she first joined my facebook group, The Mosaic Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/435516083313131/ she had commented on my book The Mosaic and she was so generous and kind with her comment, i decided i wanted to meet her and have a conversation with her. This was that conversation.

what i loved about this conversation is how someone who makes mosaics feels the way she makes mosaics is similar to what i wrote about in my book. how is it possible to share so much resonance with someone you don’t know. the more we spoke, the more she said that made me realize, she can and will be a friend of mine for the rest of my days.

hear us talk about the darkest times in life, suicide attempts, her showing up for a friend who needs her, leaving retail and becoming serious about her art and much, much more.

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Nina Del Marr

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Nina Del Marr

i have to confess, Nina is not a stranger. I met her 3 years ago at a MindValley event in Ibiza. I felt a deep connection with her and the man she was with at the time, and for what ever reason, when we both returned home, we let the connection go. We’ve had a couple of conversations, but the distance between us and the work we were doing somehow got in the way of us maintaining the connection.

So when she responded to my Facebook post, i thought, what a great opportunity to check in and re-meet someone i knew almost 4 years ago over the course of a 4 day festival. friends who became strangers who became friends again.

What i found is that when the connection is there, it always maintains. that was so nice to see. this is what Nina wrote me. “Thank you so much for the opportunity to experience our connection again…still there no matter how much time has passed. ”

If you want to connect with Nina you can do so via her FB page: https://www.facebook.com/nina.delmar

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Tranyce Parmer

50 Conversations with 50 Strangers with Tranyce Parmer

She doesn’t respond to facebook posts and she never books an appointment for Sunday, which is her day to be alone. And yet, something inside of her guided her to respond and to pick Sunday as the day for our conversation. She spoke of a teaching someone she respects teaches which says, “The Gut Hides God.” hear what that means and my surprise that it means the very opposite of what i thought it meant. and i agree with her.

in speaking with Tranyce, i received a message. thinking that i was doing something unique by having 50 Conversations with 50 Strangers, i realized i could do more. i could invite the strangers that i was meeting to reach out to each other and help each there grow and prosper. hear how that emerges from this episode and much, much more!!!!
