this conversation came at the end of a long day. i was tired and i had already had about 5 conversations with strangers today. my day started at 8am and now this conversation would end at 7pm and so i have to say, i was a little hesitant. Also, i had no idea how to even say his name, so it wasn’t that i was closed down, but maybe i wasn’t as open as i normally am.
and yet . . . from the moment our conversation started i loved it. i could feel him in the vibration of his voice and in the words that he spoke. he was a person who was in touch with himself and the work he was doing. and i loved that some of my questions he answered in ways no one else has even said. tune into our conversation, i think you will be happy you did.

the beauty of having conversations with strangers is that you never know who will be on the other side of the zoom chat and what to expect. i purposely do not do any research on the people who sign up so that when i enter the room i know nothing about them. sometimes people contact me beforehand and i start t get a sense of who they are, but i try my best to politely shut it down so that i get to meet them for the first time when i enter the zoom room.
i had no idea what to expect when i met sandra. she presented as someone my age and my mind thought this is great. this conversation will be different, but i never expected what came through this woman and the beauty of the life she lived.

it’s funny how much we feel each other. from the moment sara signed up to be one of my 50 conversations, i felt her. there was an excitement and an enthusiasm and desire that filled the space between us. i had no idea who she was or even what she looked like, i could just feel her energy and as it turns out she could feel mine too. crazy right, how does this happen. so knowing nothing about her, i entered the room to find an attractive woman in a gorgeous color top sitting in front of a beautiful statue.
she is an actress and a tarot card reader and it turns out Sara had lots of questions for me as we met in the green room, most of which she never asked, because she did a reading before we met and the guidance was to not control the conversation but just allow it to happen.
in holding the space for her to say what she wanted to say, i noticed something happening. an already attractive woman was becoming more attractive. it was as if in feeling the freedom to be heard, she relaxed even more and who she was showed up even stronger. This is the second time this happened and i only noticed it later. to hear what we spoke about, and to see what you feel happened, i welcome you to listen to our conversation . . . .

if you were to ask me how Fei Wu came to my attention, i would not have any idea how that happened; it might have been me trying to get on her podcast, but i don’t really know. all i can say, is it is so nice to have been able to spend 45 minutes or so with her.
an immigrant from china who left her homeland at the age of 17 and has now lived more years in america than she has in china. it is so interesting to see life from different perspectives.
Fei is both warm and professional and while she is full of surprises, which you will have to listen in to this conversation to find out more about, it is amazing to me how similar we feel. i love what i am discovering over and over and over again in talking to strangers . . . that we are all more alike than we might think.

this conversation almost didn’t happen. we set a time for 11am today and i showed up in the zoom room ready to see who was there, but . . . . no one was there. and so i waited, at 11:05 i send another reminder email, saying i am here awaiting you for our conversation and again crickets…. at 11:15 i wrote again, saying last chance, if i don’t see you in the next minute or so, i am going to leave. again no one showed.
you see you never know when you decide to have a conversation with a stranger how the conversation will go, or if they will even show up. i have been lucky up until now . . . my strangers have shown up and my conversations have been amazing. this was the first stranger to not show up and so when the minute came and went, i left and went about other business at hand.
one minute later, i see a note saying my guest had entered the zoom room and was waiting for me. i re-entered and again no one was there. i made up a bunch of stories, and then just wrote again saying once again i was in the zoom room. i then received an email from her apologising and we met in the zoom room. it was one of the best conversations i have had with a stranger in my zoom room. i guess you will just need to tune in to hear what we spoke about and what you think.

to again be completely transparent, i had had a conversation with Holly before, she is the friend of a friend of mine and we were introduced but somehow didn’t quit hit it off with each other, so i was so pleased when she responded to my invitation to have this conversation. i felt that there was so much more to her than i was allowing myself to see. and boy or girl, or both 🙂 was that ever true.
we had powerful conversation together which deviated from the normal questions i ask. it was like each answer brought up a new question and the questions that i had thought to ask were less important. i had been trying to keep it pretty formula like because i envisioned a time when we might bring together the answers of all the people i had conversations with to show the similarity and/or diversity of how we think and where as in the end we could probably get that from this conversation too, it took on a life of its own and i was happy to just be a part of it.
Holly was the only person to of the 40 or so conversations i have had who asked what i thought about every question that asked. she was sad when i told her that, but i was not, i just found an interesting observation; after all i explain to people that the is their chance to share with the world what they think, so to me it all made sense; but it did make the conversation more of a conversation, the recording went longer and we shared more we each other and had reframes on some of the particulars. you will have to see for yourself what you pick up . . .

What an absolute treat it was to meet Dave White. his think is positivity. and his practice is to find positive stories and post them on his facebook page and to also find songs (usually a little retro) that lift your spirit and make you feel good. what a beautiful surprise it was to meet him and to see how much we shared in common.

Here is a parting thought as we ran short and it helps give you a little more context on my journey. Recently, we went on vacation and with social distancing we had a fair amount of time in our rented condo and over the course of the week, I read and enjoyed an actual book. This is a stretch for me as I have normally taken in books in an audio format only in my adult years, normally during daily commutes. The book was left along with a small treasure trove of other books in the condo courtesy of the owners. The one that got my attention and has inspired my recognition of enjoying and being one with nature, is Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer.
In the not too distant future I am planning to do something I don’t do. I will take a tent and spend the night with nature and reflect on my thoughts away from society. My plan is finding a primitive camp site that you have to walk a bit to get to, not just drive up and setup camp. I want a little skin in the game to work through getting there. This will be personal experiment to see how I cope without creature comforts. I do plan to take water and food and I will take necessary items for survival and tools to capture my random thoughts and possibly an inspirational book like … The Mosaic. (how cool is that, he might even take my book on his camping trip to refocus his life. so cool!) This is just an unplug and try to listen to what I feel and the earth has to say to me.
If I were to write a book in the not too distant future, my journey of daily postivity and this personal experiment would be about what you would read. Stay safe my friend. Much love, Dave
